Got in a accident today after class. 3 car accident. The first car said: "A car braked in front of me and I slammed my brakes" The second car (Actually my close friend and classmate) slammed on the brakes, hit the first car, then for me, I slammed the brakes but it wasn't early enough... :,( When the cop arrived (community service officer? honestly, I don't think they solve things as good as a REGULAR cop) she arranged my baby to be towed. I asked "Can it be dropped at my house cause I can fix it" the cop said "No, because it is leaking fluids"- Yes, I understand it is harmful for the coolant to be on the ground.... So they towed it to the yard. When I got home, I called the insurance company and did my report. At the end, I asked "Is there any way I can get it back to my cause cause I can fix it?" The rep said "Sure! Why not?" I said "The officer said I can not" Rep: "I don't see why not? If it was leaking fluids, then no it can not but if it was going into a garage, then sure" I said okay and they said to call the towing company to arrange the shipping of my car. I called and the rep said "yes, we can tow it back to your garage." I asked for fees and I get slapped through the phone with: "It's $160 for storage and $60 for towing" WOAH WOAH WOAH Wait a minute! Shouldn't it be the cop's fault for not providing the SMALL detail that "If it's going in a garage, then SURE"?? So Now I have to pay $160? BS... AND I also just got word that the person all the way in the front JUST GOT HER LICENSE But anyways, all drivers are okay and currently filing their reports. Time for pics.
(I'm pretty sure it's just the hood and radiator that are damaged, no structure damage)

She's back in my hands!

Got the hood open.
Is the engine mount supposed to be this much stretched?
Whatsup with all these accidents recently! It's like a year since I crashed mine, and two more happen. Early November isn't a good time for our cars!
That's BS about the "cop". If they don't offer to tow it or store it for free, do you have access to a vehicle that can tow it? You can get a U-Haul trailer for cheaper than $60.
The damage doesn't look too bad. It's probably just the bumper, grille, headlights, headlight trim, hood, radiator, core support, horns, fan, and the condenser. All parts you can easily find at a junk yard. Perfect time to upgrade to euros too! Might be a good idea to get a cheap non-running parts car. Could be cheaper in the end, expecially if you have somewhere to store it.
Clean car too, sad to see it look like that..

that type of accident can really be unnerving. especially since you were established in your lane of travel before the causal vehicle backed up. then, to tell you u have to do what you are told to take care of the first step in repair, by a person who has no real technical experience??? extra stress! trying to protect the environment. but you know when the car went to the yard, they dripped it all the way there and set it in a gravel lot and just let 'er weep. Bastiges!, so, the recourse i would pursue, is to get my ins. to go after their ins. for reimbursement. no one else can be held responsible (legal wise) in my experience. and for the antifreeze, it takes 100 gallons of rain to dissipate 1 gallon of ethylene glycol to an acceptable level. that is, for the groundwater. if it were me, i would tow it to a mercedes specialist. have the sheet written. then tow it home. after i got my reimbursement, i could decide what to do with my money. rental car might not be provided unless i left my car in their care. so that's a factor to consider. but this would put me in a negotiating position for the settlement. also i could watch over my benz while it was estimated, inspected, or had to sit.. if it was a friend and classmate, i could deal with them honestly and keep things from getting out of control. i also get to choose which part numbers are used for the reassembly... hope she heals up and gets well soon.
It's possible your car will need two auxiliary fans, a condenser, a radiator, a fan shroud, a fan & clutch assembly, possible new fan clutch bracket, as well as body parts (hood, radiator support, hood latch and lock, bumper, grille) and headlights.
All possible when a parts car with an intact front end is sourced.
Typical CA driving ...fast and furry hahaha..Blame on each other like Obama blame on Bush ....Lol .But as long as you are OK and this case very easy DIY with fortunate CA 's JY.
LONG LIFE BABY BENZs.

I'm actually feeling better comparing to what happened to you (not putting you down or anything) but if what happened to yours happened to mine, I wouldn't leave the house for days... The pain of losing something that is just almost equivalent as a child.. And I made a list of what I would need from just the looks of it. Question- if the impact went far enough that it hit the fan clutch, what damage could possibly happen to the engine? It was a I6 so there wasn't much room between the fan and the radiator But thanks for the complement.

Very unnerving indeed. She was actually my restoration project, worked on her almost every day of my summer... My friend (red car infront of me) didn't back up, be made collision with the silver Toyota first, and I was a fair distance away but at 35Mph... Not enough time to stop :/ My mother and I worked it out with the towing company, even they thought it was BS that the "so called officer" said we couldn't take it home. So it got towed to my garage from sitting in the lot overnight, all fees were canceled. As for my friend, he may be my friend but we both know that it was the silver Toyota's fault.. If it WAS my friends fault, I would charge him because it is what needs to be done. Thanks, I hope so too.
