No heat

Hi,
I've owned my 190 for close to two years now and I have never gotten any heat out of the heater. The previous owner told me that the person he bought it from had "modified it to run cooler" without giving any specifics. During the summer it never got any hotter than the second mark on the temp gauge (~60) In my attempt to fix the heater I replaced the thermostat with an 87˚ (it was a 75˚) and drained and flushed the cooling system numerous times. I can get a little warmth, but not much. It gets closer running temp now (70-75˚) and at 82˚ the Aux fan comes on, is that cooler than usual?
Sorry for the long post, i'm getting tired of the cold.

I didn't know you could not have one? There is a heater core, I saw it when I had my center vents out, and it isn't bypassed

Check the temps of the supply and return lines to the core, particularly the return line. The supply line runs on the exhaust side of the engine bay, aided by a small electric aux pump; is regulated by the heater valve; flows through the heater core, then returns to the engine via a return line on the intake side of the engine.

If the return line isn't carrying warm/hot coolant back to the engine, then you've got some interruption/blockage in the system. Could be at the aux pump; heater valve, or inside the core. Many heater cores were bypassed (blocked at the valve) to cure leaking heater cores rather than spending the money to remove the dash to fix it.

I have checked the return pipe, and it does got hot after a drive and the Aux pump is functioning fine. Also, I have run water from a hose through the heater core from the intake hose behind the engine and it goes through to the return line. I'm stumped.

Im assuming your fan blower works, how about the dash controls? Idk how much of an affect those might have but it seems like if those switches were messed up itd probably cause some sort of malfunction.

Blower works and dash controls all work. Now that I think about it the heater worked fine when I was running water through it to flush it, but when i closed up the system and put coolant in, it stopped getting hot. Is there anyway an air pocket in the line or something could be fouling things?

Remove the leaf guard and pull the vacuum line off of the heater valve and see if you get heat. I put a permanent vacuum on mine so it would stay closed.
Not that cold here in Tampa, but if I need heat, I drive the SLK if it gets too cold.

I pulled the vacuum line off and took 'er for a ride to the store, didn't make any difference. I tried squeezing the upper radiator hose a few time while is was running and started getting heat from the vents. The engine temp doesn't go any higher then the second mark, even when idling. I turned the engine off and on a few times, after that the engine temp went up to 80 and the fan came on.
