that DIN holder looks ok, but i've never seen/used one. i bought this black plastic cup holder at wal-mart that's called the "euro-cup holder" or some shit. there's a small and large version of it. the small one is "workable" but not very solid. it's $3 so cest la vie. i have it mounted under the armrest on that little piece of carpet. when you have a drink you have to put the arm rest up. it's far from ideal but at least gives somewhere to put a cup of joe.
how a continent given a 2000+ year headstart thought to make cars without cupholders is beyond me ;]
I was planning to retrofit a cup holder from the E36, since the center console on them are pretty similar to the 190's. Now ive never seen one in real life so im not exactly sure on size but im willing to do a little cutting and molding. I think it will be the best/cleanest setup if i get it together properly. Heres some more pics to get an idea of what i plan to do, since explaining isnt one of my strengths.
You can see here that the little skinny part beside the handbrake is about the same size as the 190, which leads me to believe it should fit pretty easily.
This is a solution I did. Found the cup holder in a junkyard in a 190. Someone had tried to remove it, but snapped off the plastic clips holding the base and upper section and gave up. Lucky for me... Parts fit up well together and Super Glue solved the permanent connection problem in the end.
The cupholder was made in Germany, I tried to Google the part number at the time, but couldn't get relevant hits. The base fits perfectly where I positioned it with a couple of screws. The holder part both rotates and expands to most cup sizes (Button in upper right side in Pic #1).
I do really like the idea Mike919 has for the e36 in this thread. Look forward to see if he can get it to work.
