Looking at a car for a friend. 1990 190E, headlights remain on with key out, etc. Hi/low switch works with ign off.
Without a manual i'm kind of stabbing in the dark (pun intended). Haven't found any definitive inf, doesn't appear to be any relays, fuse box cover is in Duetsch, help?
Thinking it's either the switch, or the column assy. Can check the switch tomorrw..
All was fine yesterday, last night lights remained on when he shut the car off. He ended up pulling the headlight connectors so as to not kill the battery.
Lights were fine, so crossed wires shouldn't be a issue (Yes, understand by "looking" at a car i may have implied it was a pre purchase inspection)
I looked at it tonight. Lights stay on with the key out of the ignition. High low switch switches between hi and low beams (key out). Turned the switch, push pull, flex, etc hoping for a bad connection. Guess i'll pull the switch tomorrw and figure out current flow so that i can use the ohm meter.
Was hoping someone had btdt (no sense reinventing the wheel!)
Where you located? Did CA models ever have DRLs? That was my first thought, a bad connetion or relay someplace. Happened to in my '95 Golf. The switch that activated the DRLs was under the handbrake and went south... lights stayed on.
My next thought, Is there an aftermarket alarm installed? Mine did some funky stuff before I uninstalled it, like flashing the hazzard lights and sounding the horn when the brakes were applied... HA!

NAw, that was a prank i pulled on ya. Silly cop.
The switch isnt hard to replace and they have gone bad.
I may have an extra laying around somewhere tbh...
Just the headlights remain on (no other lights) Going to have to dig into it this weekend when i can see what i'm doing. Just started working again (recently retired military) as a mechanic in a restoration shop, so do have a clue what i'm doing with these things. Actually will be working on a older Mercedes tomorrow. Place is a restoration shop, do alot of different oddball vehicles. Presently a "audi guy", understand German overengineering, but without schematics, manuals or personal knowledge of thhis model it's a little more challenging.
