OVP Relay?

What exactly does this thing do. And if this relay were bad would the car still pump fuel and create spark? (because mine does, it just wont start).

I am having a problem with my car (see my other threads to find out more).

Thanks for the info.

The over voltage protection relay provides constant power to the ECU to ensue the fueling system works correctly. It also powers other systems such as the ABS.

If faulty or not working the ECU will not read data from the engine sensors correctly and make incorrect adjustments – or no adjustments at all – often resulting in a rough idle or overall poor performance.

The relay has a 10 amp fuse that may have blown, check that first.

is your check engine light on? Indeed, check that fuse first.... it could be a 50 cent solution to a much bigger problem

Would all the above regarding the OVP relay also apply to a 90 300E?

search forum for how to fix

just take the casing off of the ovp, and resolder the connections on it, if they seem to have hairline cracks. this is a pretty easy fix, and will save yourself about 70 bucks. may be a good idea to just buy one for backup.

Most Benz if not all I think have OVPs.
Another way to tell if your OVP is toast is when your car has a hard time starting or if your ABS light is on and the idle goes crazy high when the light is on.

my 1993 190e 2.3 has an OVP with 2 fuses on top. the printed circuit diagram on the can shows 2 relays plus a diode and a zener diode plus one icon i don't recognize but seems like it might be a control transister. i have several shop manual versions, but none show it. i've tried to test it off the car with a 12vdc battery, but am not certain of the connections. the fuses are good, ABS lamp is not on, engine runs fine, starts cold fine, but occasionally on a warm start will almost stall, then go to correct idle. so i'm trying to check out known week links.

Sounds like o2 sensor or possibly cts. Does it run rough for about 3-4 min then get slightly better? If it does my guess is the 02. I had same problem, it is most likely not ovp, but u do need to get a new one just in case
