06/06/05 seems quite early for a car that on a 56-plate, that would mean that it was sat in storage for at least 18-months before been registered
j440uk , i think you might be right in regards it sitting around for quite a while, will try and follow up this history prior to registration with the dealership i purchased from, the vin i inserted into russian merc site came back all correct in relation to specs and everything , so would assume that the delivery date is not incorrect.meanwhile what do anyone make of these new pics is this the very early signs of the tailgate internal corrosion or is it my imagination ??, 1st and 2nd pic are taken with tailgate open and this is the bottom just left of caulking and hatch hinge and 3rd pic is almost top of tailgate near locking latch, again thankyou for all participation so far , thanks , antony
hi,derek, thanks for reply, appreciated , if you know where to point me to find more info on canadian the door replacements would be grateful, i am particular with my car, particlarly opening doors and these are not kerb rubs , dont get kerbs that high where we are located , lol, pic of inside door edge
have car back today, the before and after pics , you will have noticed the change of caulking around doors perimiter. this a paint repair, not a doors replacement, whole of both doors and wings and quaterpanels have been blended in. noticed wax seeping out of drainholes
Seeing as they are only blasting and repairing your rust, the protective galvanizing has been removed and one layer of protection is now missing.
You should now put your car on a lift and check all the underbody seams for rust. If you look in the wheelwells you will see that all of the frame and metal seams are also the wrinkled style and rust can also be starting there.
MB is just hoping that the rust warranty will be up before too many people see the rust.
The last pic seems to show a sloppy repair on the top edge.....or is that rust bubbling underneath. Some of the other pics seem to show something going on around the caulking.
In the event of a publicity nightmare, MB Canada probably decided to change the doors on those affected cars. Good luck with your inspections.
thanks Derek for that, which pic do you refer too in regard to last pic , is that the tailgate one? has i have not had any repairs done to the car since owned other than doors repainted has above .do i need to remove all the plastic floor guards underneath the car to view the area you stated for rust or can this be viewed removing the wheels ?
The last pic just above my answer(pic# 240968) shows a rough surface above the smooth caulking.
If you turn the front wheel outwards and look into the wheelwell, some seams should be visible. Putting the car on a lift would let you inspect much more and add extra lighting to highlight the seams. The rear of the car stays wetter, so make sure that all seams are checked.
I have had an 05 A150 manual for 14 months it now has 35K miles on the clock, there is rust on three doors, the passenger being the worst the dealer said never heard of this (little liar), on top of that ive had an engine replaced at 29K and 2 gearboxes the first after the new engine had just done 20 miles and it lasted for 5K miles the present one has only done 600 miles and intermittantly knocks/rattles wether hot or cold, the knocking changes when the clutch is dipped dealer says its thin oil!, all three gearboxes had notchy gearghanges but with enough moaning they did adjusted it for me, the car has spent 40 days in the repair shop for numerous other problems. Im now so disillusioned with the A class and after conciderable complaining including emails to customer services in Holland and not wanting a paint repair which I believe will only be temporary, my dealer has agreed "for a price" to exchange the car for an old 02 C180 C class which unfortunately will be more expensive to run, I dont really know if there doing me a favour? the 14 month experiance has cost me about £4K (partly I suppose, due to the recession) but "take heed" as a mechanic at the dealer said "now you will have a Mercedes"
The current A-Class is the most reliable car in the small family segment according to the latest JD Power survery, and there are generally very few complaints about the reliability of the car. I am also surprised you say the gearshift is notchy, as most people comment on how smooth and slick it is.
The 02 C-Class is no more a 'proper Mercedes' than the A-class is, and if anything it will be far less reliable as it does appallingly in consumer suverys etc, and has many build quality issues.

Hi J400 uk Well! that makes me feel much better, I can only hope any issues with the C180 have already been sorted by the cars first and only owner

Sorry I didn't mean to come across as rude in my post, that was not at all my intention. It just sounds to me like you have a lemon of a car with the A150, and the dealer is trying to fob you off.
Hope you have better luck with the C180 and your happy with it
