In Canada, all of the rusty doors are replaced and not repaired. This problem is well known and being addressed at the highest level. Go to the Regional rep and then higher if not completely satisfied.
Show some pics from the inside of the door edge. Some of those pics could be from curb rubs also.
Hold the camera parallel to the door edge to keep all in focus if possible.
hi,derek, thanks for reply, appreciated , if you know where to point me to find more info on canadian the door replacements would be grateful, i am particular with my car, particlarly opening doors and these are not kerb rubs , dont get kerbs that high where we are located , lol, pic of inside door edge
thanks for reply j400uk , your comments on capitals are noted , was no intention to offend anyone , opoligize everyone , am waiting for managers who are looking into matter , will chase up in a few days though if nothing heard soon in regard to loan car etc.. thank s , antony
There seem to be general consensus that only pre-2007 cars are affected (I think the exact date is pinpointed to mid-2006). These have corrugated door seams, instead of smooth.
I AM FROM THE U.K AND HAVE STARTING TO SEE COROSION/PAINT FLAKING ON A 56 PLATE WITH ON 40,000 MILES FROM NEW ONLY , RUST IS ON BOTH DOORS , HAD CAR NEW 25 MTHS FROM DELIVERY MILEAGE, HAVE TAKEN CAR TO MERCEDES DEALER OTHER DAY , HAVE TO WAIT TO SEE OUTCOME , HAS ANYBODY HEARD OF THIS ON A YOUNG A CLASS, AND WHAT WAS THE OUTCOME ETC...?? I AM AWARE OFF IT ON B CLASS THOUGH, AND ANY REPLIES ON THIS MATTER WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED INDEED
1)Has anyone in the u.k had the above problem yet?if so
2)have you gone through the take pics at mercedes dealership stage yet and await for dealer to come back to you with warranty decision ? if so
3)what was outcome , eg , repair only, blast metal ,repaint
or panel replacement ? which?
4)have you found the dealership understanding / knowledgeable/helpful on this matter ?
5)have you pics of before and after work completed ?
my experience so far is that everyone i spoke to so far dont know of this situation even from managers and bodyshops of different dealerships.is this a cover up here in the u.k or have mercedes germany kept everyone in the dark here in the gt britain? ??
About 8000 A-class cars seem to be affected by this problem. It is probably limited to mid-2006 models and earlier. These seem to have corrugated door seams: http://www.lucas-nicolai.de/elchfans/21032008.jpg
Many of the affected cars have had all four doors exchanged on warranty, but some have been repaired/repainted instead. You should insist on exchange as some photos of repaired doors have not shown a satisfactory repair.
In Canada, our affected B Class owners of the same 06 time period have had all of the affected doors replaced.
Some members rust pics were not as bad as yours, so please insist on door changes and not repairs.
thanks michael and to derek for replying, believe me i am trying to insist on car doors replaced , but at present only mercedes authroised to repair and paint , will have to strip doors down ist to see extent of corrosion, i am going to attend the body shop when doors are stripped down and hopefully post internal pics for you all has soon has i get them of the damage within. over the weekend going to go around with magnifying glass all around the caulking areas to look for early signs of other rust starting and will point out to workshop to report to warranty if nec thanks all
