You might be thinking of the SMART car that mercedes makes. That might be the substitute A-Class.

Read in the september issue of the swedish Auto Motor & Sport edition, that the next generation A-class (2011) will no longer have the sandwich-construction floor, but based on the same chassis as the Mini Cooper.

MB is apparantly negotiating with BMW on this. According to AM&S they will conclude after the Frankfurt Car Show in October.

A and B will have a facelift in 2008, and all petrol and diesel A's will be equipped with a "start-and-stop" automatic to save fuel.

That stop-start feature will cause lots of turbocharger bearing wear on the CDIs and A 200 Turbo!

I am glad I will be getting a new B 200 in a week or two, because it is not a badge-engineered MINI

skipinschool, for heaven sakes, when you are talking about facts quote the source... when you are giving your personal thoughts or opinions, make sure you mention that, so you dont spread inaccurate info

before you ask, here is why i am flipping out:

Smart is a project launched by Mercedes in 1995, Merc developped the car in part with Swatch, the Swiss watch maker, under the project name Smart Car

Mercedes decided not to badge the car with the tristar for marketing reasons, and to introduce the smart as a concept on its own.

at the same year, 1995, Mercedes introduced the A class to be a 1998 model

the buttom line is, the 2 cars co-existed for more than 12 years, and they are 2 totally separate concepts, projecting 2 separate shares of the market...etc

as always, its nothing against you personally, but when you post wrongfull and misleading info (with good faith i am sure) you could cause other members to start quoting you and dealing with what you say as facts...

Photos of a A-Class upgrade

Must say the A-Class story is confusing. I stumbled apon this website containing A-Class upgrade spy photos. So why would MB bother with upgrade if going to scrap it..The upgrade probably to facelift it like the W204 looks...
