Remove the Km/H digital speedo on UK W169?

Hi,

Just collected my A150 Special Edition Auto last week, really like it so far (although not the fastest car on the planet ) however I'm perplexed by a couple of the operating system options.

There's the option to set miles or kilometres on the display, however the digital speedometer only displays in km/h even with this option set to miles. The manual has a small disclaimer that this option is not possible on UK cars (can't think why). So I just cant understand why MB would leave the speedo onscreen all the time as it's effectively useless (unless driving on foreign roads I suppose). I wouldn't mind so much but the related option also mentioned in the manual to replace the digital speedo with the external temperature ALSO has a disclaimer to say not available on UK cars.

I guess this is some sort of UK legislation compliance, but is there a way to get into an engineering mode or similar and change this behaviour?

It can only be done by someone with access to engineering mode (factory mode) on the workshop Star Diagnosis system, and the extra menus are in german

In addition to my new A200 I also have the SLK350. The km/hr display has been a long standing annoyance to many on the SLK website and as far as I know no-one has been able to fix it. I think we are well and truly stuck with it. So much better to have a continuous temp display.

A200 petrol turbo... and I would love a continuous temp display

Instead I have a continuous km/hr and no adjustments of settings seems able to correct this even if I select mph instead of km/hr in the options list. I will ask the dealer about this shortly.

Are all W169's like this:

All UK MB cars are like this. The dealers can not fix this with their Star Diagnosis machines ..

(unless, (a) they can get the monthly enginnering code, and b) they can understand the german engineering menus (c) they are willing to play - i.e. not going to happen)
