A140 2003 Engine Not Starting from Cold

Hi.

I have a Mercedes A140 and have had it approx 1 month. When trying to start the car from cold, the only light showing on the dashboard is SRS. Try to turn the key and nothing.

Wait a couple of minutes and try again, sometimes it will start other times you have to try the same procedure 4 or 5 times before all the lights will come on the dash and you know you are ready for take off.

Does this sound like an ECU issue or is it a more technical electrical issue.

When buying from the garage the salesperson said that you had to press the clutch before starting, it was a safety feature (i reckon this is a load of baloney myself).

Also the car has 3 months warranty, so if its going to be expensive then would like to get it sorted under warranty before it expires.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers,

DaddyCee

The lights works well? radio? honk? BTW the battery car is good? The fuses? Ear some click click when you go start? To press the clutch before starting, is true. Do it.

Yes the horn works fine, there appears to be no other problems.

We this happens, there is no clicking as if the battery is dead or discharged. It seems similar to if you try and start a car with the Imobiliser enabled.

Could it be a bad earth connection?

Haa ok nothing... if you push the car an try start in movement, start it? try. If one light goes on, horn, etc the battery and the ground are good.

Hi

I have similar Starting problem with my Merc A140 2001. Y reg.
Sometime when i am starting it doesn't starts. No error, or any wrong indication on panel. I have to then wait for 5-10 mins and then it starts.

This used to be often initially and now days this happens frequently.

Also there is second problem sometime my LCD (showing speed and temperature) doesn't light up.. totally no number.

I am more concerned with the first one - starting issue. How did u resolve yours?

Is there something called starter relay. where is this located?
Regards

Nilesh

If once works and others not, isnot a relay or fuse. Have some sound clic clic or not? if yes could be one relay, if not may be the inmobiliser or the key, have you the second key?

The cluster display on back have 2 connector may be are loose contact. The icons lights works? instruments? if only display not work may be the flex conector. Have you a scanner to chek it?

Switch on the back of the key. Common problem.
