Hi,
I wounder if anyone could help me, yesterday I replaced the hydrolic pump that operates the ACS gear box on my A-Class now I've put in the replacement pump the dread F sign in the dash board seemed to have disappeared but my gears are locked down (i.e. I cannot select a gear when the engine is running).
I did spend some time yesterday trying to bleed the system out any air, at one point I got the gears to work whilst the car hoisted up but when I dropped the car back on the ground gears locked up again. I would be grateful if someone could let me know an effective way to bleed the clutch system of air.
Thanks,
PS - I am DIY mechanic... found lofty's pages on A-class really useful... Plus can't really afford to take the Car to MB.
How did you get on with this ? Did bleeding system solved the problem? How did you bleed ?
My A170 has just had gearbox replaced as the old one was very noisy.
Car before gearbox change was running fine (only noisy). Now I have done the replacement at friend of mine, who did everything but is not sure how to properly bleed the clutch. There is apparently a valve on the gearbox, but what's the correct procedure for auto-clutch (ACS) version?
The symptoms now are - the car is ocassionally not getting into gears, there is no 'F' display, I can hear the actuator (and pump?) working, even taken it apart and the brushes are OK. But the worst part is setting-off. Put the car in 1st and release the brake and it jumps forward like a kangaroo, this jump is so strong that it almost immediately stalls after a jump or series of weaker jumps. It's same on 2nd gear and reverse. I have developed a method of getting it running by pressing and releasing the brake pedal continiously (very fast) so that just the brake lights come on (and clutch is then released) to prevent stalling and still have some movement from the first jump. Then another brake pedal release and another jump (as the car is already slightly moving, this time jump is weaker and less chance of stalling), to the point where it becomes stable. Once car in motion, you can change throughout all gears with no problems, drive anywhere- UNTIL you get to the roundabout :-) where you have to start over again. Kangaroo - brake, kangaroo, brake, brake, kangaro.... OK, we're going ! :-) It is very difficult to control hence very often stalls.
Yes, I have tried the ACS reset procedure, but it only seems to get it more difficult to get into gear, wheras before reset it's smooth and easy to get into gear.
I have also noticed when the (I think) transmission warms up, there's no kangaroo effect sometimes, depends on the car's mood. It just smoothly starts as it should. Depends on the day really, but mostly it's in kangaroo mode.
I have no 'F' sign on the dash as mentioned. What could be the cause?
Would it be improperly bleed clutch? I have given it for another clutch bleed (same guy unfortunately) and no effect.
Is there a method for proper bleed (if so, how)
Cheers!
