Boot/tailgate locking problem

Hi I bought an 2000 model a-class 2 days ago. I am having problems with the boot. The lock is not working on central locking, the rest of the doors lock fine. Also the key will only fit halfway in the lock so I can not lock it with the key either.

I read something about the pump in the boot but not sure how it work, i unpluged the cable and plugged it back in and i gave off a constant vacum noise and did not stop until i unplugged it.

Any ideas

Many thanks in advance

Take it slowly, it's only a car. If it was working when you took it off, then you have not replaced the item removed correctly or a seal has not been achieved that's why the pump keep running .

go to my site and study the page then start again, the boot lock problem will be lack of servicing , Serviced by a gargae MB? well that will be the answer the chances of it having seen more than the lubricant spray can will explain why all the conponents are dry and have locked up.

Door locks, boot lock, bonnet securing devise, fuel filler lock, all want regular lubrication to keep them working well silicone spray twice a year does the job for me.

Oh and if you like a copy of my CD please order in the next 6 days It must go up in price towards the end of the week ..

Please come back with 'feed back' and tell us how you get on, I can't speak for others but I like to hear the good news as well as the bad.

Hi Lofty thanks for the reply. I just pulled the blueish vacum tube out by mistake, locks are sorted now.

The vacum on the boot lock is trying to pull it but seems the lock has seized. Tried spraying it with WD but still no luck so will pull it off soon as I can and service it.

Many thanks

great stuff, spray wd 40 weekly until you can get at it then you will find all it needs is a good cleqan and re-lubrication.
Good luck .
