Hi guys / desperate for a quick reply to this question.
How would I know if my brake discs need replacing? The car drives fine (girlfriend reported some burning rubber smell the other day) but the replace brake pads light came on.
We took it to a kwickfit who told us £70 for new pads, but not they say they want £250 as it needs new discs as well.
We have no idea if we really need them, is there a way to tell?
Replacement of the discs is normally determined by the remaining thickness of the disc however if the car has been run and the pads have gone bdown to the metal then the discs may be scored (grooves int he disc surface .if that is the case then yes I would replace both discs and pads
if the discs are sound, buy you pads from MB and fit them yourself a very easy job indeed with few tools required, if you haven't done the job before get a wised up mate to help you save yourself £200. see my pages 27,28 http://www.aclassinfo.co.uk/mypage.27.htm
