The last couple of weeks Ive noticed a small patch of liquid left underneath my girlfriends a170 cdi on the driveway overnight.
Apon inspection there is alot of liquid spread over the bottom of the engine and steering rack etc.
The liquid is clear with a tint of yellow. It smells like a mix between white spirt and weak diesel and doesnt have an oily feel between the fingers. My first though is ive got a diesel leak as I had to replace the common faulty diesel injectors a few months ago so thought i could have a possible leak from one of the pipe unions etc.
On closer inspection I noticed the liquid is dripping from a small L-shaped pipe which comes from the cylinder head and is situated just bellow the fuel pump housing. Heres a engine parts diagram which I think shows the pipe im talking about
Heres a couple of photos too of where the pipe is.

This is a close up from the top of the engine bay of the pipe, Ive turned it to face upwards to stop the liquid dripping but it originally pointing towards the ground

This is a close up from underneath, the big bit to the right is the gearbox/driveshaft and the copperish pipe and heat sheild is the small pipe that comes from the exhaust downpipe.

This pic shows the location in relation to the rest of the engine. the pipe is located bellow all the fuel pipes circled bellow the fuel pump
I find it very strange if this is a breather pipe as I thought it was illegal to vent either burnt oil vapours or diesel/petrol fumes to air.
Does anybody know what the pipe is and if it is a breather pipe should there be liquid that smells like weak diesel dripping from it?
Since its so close to the fuel pump im worried that the pump is leaking internaly and this is like an over flow pipe for it?
Sorry for the long post but suppose its better with as much detail as possible
It doesnt seem to connect to anything and I cant find another pipe which it would meet up to.
Its like its a breather pipe but the amount of liquid coming from it is a bit disturbing. ie about 4 table spoons worthe was collected in a puddle on the
plastic engine under cover when i removed it.
