Please help,
My A class has started to act like stubborn child. sometimes she's fine and sometimes she can be anightmare to start, i hate to think what would happen when i need to make an emergency getaway and she refuses to start. The problem is when i start her sometimes the lights in dashboard will come on and the car wouldn't start, so i have to leave her alone for 10-20mins tops then try again, but 85% she starts ok, it's just those other times that make me really cross with her, (PS it's my wife's car so it's a she) is there a way i can disable the immobiliser permanently. Also i have checked the glove compartment there is no keyslot there and i dont have the red key as the previous owner never gave it to us. But i would really like to get rid of it, I wouldn't want my missus to be stranded because the car wouldnt start.
Go to my page 66 Bert Rowe's-mercedes-benz 'A'-class info. Starter Motor Location & information. replacement,
and check to see if you have the starter with the build in immobiliser, check to code in the rear of your service book. If yes then that could be the problem .
The other thing i would suspect is the ignition switch not to be confused with the lock
that also causes problems of the like you are experiencing see my page70
please feed back information then we may be able to help your further .
No feed back, No help
I'm not aware the it can be disabled , the cars with the inbuilt starter motor immobilser have the code I mentioned earlier if your car is one of those then the only answer is a new or reconditioned starter motor. But make sure it is the correct starter fitted, I'm aware of two instances this year where garages have fitted the wrong motor, end product the car will not start at all, in both case the new starter had to be replaced with the correct one,Insist on MB cross checking your VIN with your service book information then they might even sell you the correct one if it hasn't got the 049 code then a new starter relay may help.
