I have a problem with my A140: when it idles there are constantly over one thousand RPM, sometimes nearly 1500 RPM. The model is 1999 and equipped with an automatic transmission. I do not know if the high cycles influence the fact that in reverse gear the car trembles. Usually the car is normal but when it idles it is confronted with problems. Is there somebody here who can help me?
This could be a accelerator peddle sensor playing up or even the MAFS sensor, your best bet is to try and see if their is trouble code recorded on the ECU
Because your car is pre 2000 you may have to visit MB as it is unlikely that a EOBD2 OBD2 diagnostics tool will read the faults even if recorded.
It would be worth checking the air filter, make sure it’s installed correctly , i.e well fitting on to the neck of the filter housing and that the clamp is closed.
