a170cdi semi auto problem

i've got a problem with my semi auto gearbox, it started to stuck on second gear recently so im driving now without 2nd gear ( strait to third from first) no problems when car is not moving, everything is fine, no 'F' on dashboard, it shows all gears as it should... there is problem only when i drive, when i changing gears from 1st to 2nd everything is ok, problem starts if i want to change from 2nd to 3rd... it feels like something is holding on 2 gear... with little bit of push i can change gear but it sometimes goes back to first somehow... so now i'm trying to avoid driving on second gear... apart of that everything works ok
maybe someone had same problem and know how to fix it without visiting mercedes garage...
any help would be very appreciated...

Have you checked the gear linkage to the left of the of the head or try this site ?Albert Rowe, Lofty's homepage.index.html been very useful.good luck

thanx for your help, fixed the problem in few seconds had some problems to find the part (ball socket, the one conecting linkage to gearbox, photo att) no luck in local shops, even gsf could'n help me... after few days found it on Mercedes-Benz (Brighton) - parts A to M

while i'm here i wanted to ask what kind of oil i need to put in gear box if i want to change it... ask in all shops, checked manual - nothing... the only place is mercedes garage but they willing to help only if i leave my car with them and they do it themselfs hmm... its a semi auto gearbox and i found that its ordinary manual gearbox but with auto clutch and the oil should be the same as in manual gearbox... is that true?? i dont want to mess it up ))

If you had read the information on my page 59 Bert Rowe's-mercedes-Benz 'A'-class info. Gearbox (Manual) Dumbell replacement, loss of gears , gear box oil replacement.reverse gear and revering light you would have seen its only £2.00 approx from MB would have saved you a lot of running aoround, But as they say you can only take the horse to the water! If you but the oil for the gearbx/ACS transmission from MB parts and quote your VIN they will sell you the corrct fluid, go else ware and your playing a guessing game with the outlet selling you what they have available.
