Steering column UJ - How much????

Hi -

Whilst having my A170 cdi looked at by my local garage they remarked how one of the UJs on the steering column seemed a bit worn and said they'd contact the local MB franchise for a cost on the part.

MB came back with the fact that you have to buy a complete new steering column, for a massive £1,100!!

Does anyone know of a cheaper way forwards? - the A170 does a massive amount of mileage but we're starting to look at the parts being worth as much as the car! Any ideas on this (other than 'sell it', etc) really would be appreciated.

Take a good look at my pages 49 & 50
The chances are you will get away with a good greasing, and read my other method of getting rid of the dreaded clicking when you slightly move the s/wheel left right.
