I have a 2001 A160 automatic and unfortunately the place i am in doesn't have a mercedes dealer or repair shop. Sometimes the car just fails to shift gears and it displays 'F' on the dash board. It happens frequently and most of the time if i switch off the car and start it back on it works properly.
The OBD code is P1856-000
which says Internal Fault: Component A61
-Electronic Selector Lever Module
-(gear recognition module has detected and implausible selector lever position)
Now my question is what should I replace? And from where is the best place to buy it?
Have an owner at present with basically the same problem his MB diagnostics fault stored was P1872 - Gear selector module MB cleared the fault but it came back more or less straight away .
He is having to get the selector module replaced in the cab, for further info, price etc go to :-http://www.aclassinfo.co.uk/mypage.59.htm
