A140 Mileage Display Unit fault

Have recently purchased a A140 (2001 model). The mileage display unit seems to be behaving funny.

When I start the car "CC" appears on the display with a beep.

Then I see some very dim characters, but the more I drive they become clearer. Recently drove my car for 3 hours continously and during that time the display was getting clearer and clearer. Finally it was bright and clearly readable.

Turned off the engine started in a few mins it was lost again and after another couple of hours continuous drive it was bright again.

Seems it needs some sort of a warm up or something. But it proves that the display unit is OK.

Please help.

Sorry I can't be of any help, however, I hope you get it sorted!

I have just bought a 2002 A140: Very pleased with it, everything seams to have been built with quality parts and construction.

Cheers mate, had same problem with my A140, 2001. Solved it yesterday.
Cuttlers garage in Aldridge, Walsall, told me about a guy who could help me.
And so he could. Sorted in 15 minuttes. Price £56... Something to do with the backlight.
If you are in the Birmingham area and which contact information, just mail me back.
Regards,
CBay.

great that you are pleased with the car and I sincerely hope your feelings towards the car remain unchanged..
However so as to avoid possable problems in the future can I invite you to take a look and my site where there are a number of items you should be made aware of, some for your safety, some because they are not obvious to the driver and some that are down to bad design, nothing lost , costs nothing and you may avoid costs which would otherwise arise , in particular, front and rear springs , ECU/mafs ,removal replacement of rwear seats , are common problems and so it is wise to be aware of the action needed when these go wrong and how to save money as well.
