A160 Engine Light Resetting - how Can I do it?

Hi ,

I have an A160 Avantgarde Auto, a stunning looker with dark metallic blue paint, AMG wheels, Parking sensors, sunroof and Designio blue leather/suede interior. Full automatic on a 52 Plate.

Unfortunately for me, it is showing engine management light on and MB diagnosed it today and said they had 'noticed' a problem with an Electronic Floor Shift module which needed replacing at a massive £500+VAT! When I asked if they would fix the problem if the light came back on they said they would only warranty the part replaced Does that mean they have no confidence in their own diagnosis? I have heard of AMF/sensor probs on this forum as well.

Anyway, they reset the light and it disappeared only for 2 days. I want to switch the engine light off, remove the 'F' code on the panel and make sure it's not in safe mode so we can drive it properly without loss of power/throttle when moving off.

I am still deciding whether to sell the car or pay MB to fix it but in the meantime, so I can get my kids to school safely, does anyone know how to reset the fault code and switch the light off? Do I need something called an OBD scanner? Can I do it manually without?

Any suggestions welcome :-) p.s. what a great find this site is!!

I know i'm late with a reply, but yes you can now purchase an obd2 diagnostics tool that will help you with the deletion of trouble codes , they may well appear again of course if the defect has not been dealt with .
go to my site and you can get the same type as I use and get 10% off the list price .
Good luck with the car.

There is a link on my site to the company selling all makes of and models of OBD2 /EOBD diagnostics tools, far better that you contact them see what they advise, do bear in mind the years of manufacture for installation/compliance of the socket requirement.

2000 Europe petrol, 2004 Diesel, if your vehicle was manufactured before those dates the unit's may not work or produce the codes you can read.
Again the company will advise you .
But purchase and return they charge a 25% handling fee for refunds!
