I recently woke up one morning to find my battery completley flat. I hadn't left any lights on or anything, but had recently installed a new cd player into the car, so thought it may have had something to do with it. Anyway coming out of the car I heard a whirring noise under the bonnet, even though the engine was off. Turns out the power steering pump is still going, even with the engine off. Have tried fiddling with it and checked the fuses, but all looks ok. Any help would be grateful!
We seem to have a similar problem mine doesn't work at all.The best way is to check on the small blue wire going to the pump when engine is running you should have full voltage on this wire probably about 14 volts.when engine is switched off that voltage should be about 1 volt.If that is correct then you will more than likely have a problem internally did the steering pump get water on it before this happened. If so maybe it would be best to take it out and get rid of the moisture on the circuit board.Believe me it is like performing micro surgery so if you are not confident doing it try to find someone who is confident around micro electronics.Mine didn't go so very well a component shorted on the board and I have no way to identify exactly what it is besides knowing that it is a resistor and a very small one at that.Good luck mate Hope you have better luck than what I did.Price of new steering pump AU1900 one from wreckers AU550.Score final match Mercedes A160 1 Me 2.Won't be playing injury time
