You should scan your ECU to find any error codes. Then I will check to see what is the meaning of these codes and we will go from there....

Right finally got some fault codes read at the dealer and typically the fault never ocurred at the dealer so all they could do was print the codes. I take it home and 2 days later the fault is back! Dash lights staying on as soon as i switch the engine off and start error and doesnt attempt to turn over, Key remote doesnt lock / unlock the doors either. The fault will reset if i disconnect and connect the battery Anybody shed some light on this problem?

Fault codes seem to be around the CAN system?
Code 2311 CAN communication with the engine system is faulty
Code 2312 CAN communication with the engine system is faulty
Code B1039 Fault in CAN communication with control unit FTC
Code B1040 the CAN Communication of the engine control module is faulty
Code B1041 CAN communication with the traction system is faulty

Please Help !!

Can communication is normally sent to a coordinator which is like a control unit which links all your control units together. You could pickup problems if you disconnect battery or power leads while ignition is on or pullout fuses. Also jump starting cars with control units when car is running and jump cables are removed it causes a voltage spike not good news for a control unit. The other explanation is control units like coordinators are like a computer and some times need to be restarted which might or might not be the case.check if you have fuses for those control units disconnect battery with ignition off and pull out those leave uncoupled for a couple of minutes replace fuses couple up battery and check system again. If problem persists you might have to have control units locked together or reprogrammed by a dealer. This information comes from a truck mechanic that works on modern trucks.this some times works without having to reprogram control unit again depending if control unit has a back-up battery internally or not let me know if this works

Hi
Thanks for the response. I will try that and let you know what happens. Doing a search on this forum on "Start error" it all seems they have very similair causes and on different Mercedes models i.e battery went flat then was jump started which suggestes there may be some common parts shared across the Merc models.
