Knocking noise from behind the dashboard

Have my A140 - w168 2002 from new.

Todays new Noise (there have been various interesting noises over the cars lifetime!) is a dull knocking/clicking sound from somewhere behind the dashboard (roughly the centre).

this lasts for 30 seconds on startup and then stops completely.

Turning the fans onto Full Power there is a noticeable fluctuation in blower power as the knocking noise contuinues. The fans blow fine once the noise is stopped.

If anyone has come across something similar please let me know.

Has anyone seen any technical info on removing the entire Dashboard?
thanks all

Help just lost a post , answer to your question!

The problem is caused by motorised flap on the side of the heater, it's been a problem on pre-face lift models but your the first with a post face lift to mention it that I'm aware of.
I fear the centre dash would at the least have to be removed to get at the problem, a costly business unless you are a DIY addict? cheaper to just put up with the noise or allow the heater to warm up before putting the fan on.

My page 61 gives some heater information. Lofty's homepage. and there is masses of other information on my CD rom.

I am interesting to learn from your Lofty's homepage. Can you send me the link?

Thanks
