The car is under extended warranty from Mercedes. I have been back to the local dealer who cannot find a problem. He has tested the battery and connections, etc and everything is tests OK.
I have heard alarming stories about high cost of changing the starter motor in the A class. I would like this option to be looked at by the dealer but cannot push the point if he cannot find anything wrong. The concern is that the warranty will expire then the starter may finally pack in and need replaced at high cost.
Anyone suggest what this could be and advice on the course of action with the problem |
Hi, not sure on your hot start issue but when my wifes starter motor went on her 2001 A190, it was 6 months out of warranty

we didnt have your issue as it just wouldnt start.
The total cost for MB to replace it was £750. MB assist took it to the dealer and then supplied us with a hire car. It took a week to get the new motor and in this time the dealer contacted MB customer services and they agreed to give a discretionary 50% discount as I complained that the car had only done 30k miles. Still cost me £375 so not small change, but if it does finally break then it might be worth considering taking it up with customer services, especially given your circumstances.
