The interior light switch is in the central position and should switch off after a certain time, but it does not. Sometimes it stays on all night, sometimes it switches off after a couple of minutes, it varies ! Anyone else have this problem ? Is there a sensor somewhere that governs how long it stays on ? Cheers

Hi there, I have just started having the same problem, please let me know if you managed to resolve this.
I've just encountered the same problem this very evening.
I've managed to switch off the light by placing the switch in an intermediate position between lights on (left) and lights off (central).
If this hadn't worked out, I would have disconnected the battery. Leaving the light on all night definitely will discharge an older battery.
I have an A Class and its just started dooing the same, this. Thanks to the below text i managed to get it balanced on the off position..
if anyone know the solution to this or what the heck has caused it please reply.
many thanks

I've encountered this phenomenon again yesterday - and this time I noticed a slight noise from the back of the car when driving. It turned out that the luggage compartment door was not completely closed - and that was what caused the lights to stay on. So even if you THINK the door is closed correctly it might not be - slam it firmly and the problem goes away
Now you might ask why MB didn't do a better job on the closure mechanism ?
