My wifes A170 has developed a strange fault, when turning the car the wheel get's stuck and requires a little effort to get it unstuck whilst turning. It almost seems like the steering lock is catching, but strangly if I hold it in the stick position for a second it will turn fine. The problem does not happen if the car is stationary only when moving. The steering makes all sorts of creaks when turning. I have checked the powersteering fluid level and it is at the maximum.
Any idea what the problem could be ?
But I Would Try To Adjust The Steering Column First, Give It A Wiggle And See If Anything Is Stuck... It Could Also Be The Steering Arm, Did You Hit Anything Recently? It Could Have Bent The Arms Slightly Also Maybe A Small Stone Or What Not May Have Been Caught In The Steering Mechanism...
Although you have had no feed back at present this was a common fault caused by the bottom UJ seizure, can be easily overcome by spraying with copious spays of WD40 and exercising left to right, then lubricating by putting oil and grease mixture into the gaiter. In severe cases by replacing the lower UJ which can be purchased separately from MB outlets.
