A-Class A160 in America? Is it ok?

I am thinking to import an A-Class A160 from Japan to here in California. I'm wondering if anyone knows if it is Road Ready, or what conversion I will need to do before I can get it checked out and drive it?
I can't seem to find much help through email and internet. Can Anyone Help??

RE: A-Class A160 in America? Is it ok?

Check with the guys in Costa Mesa importing the Smart Car for ideas on this.

IMHO it's not worth it. You have bumper standards, airbag requirements, collapseable steering wheel, tempered glass, laminated glass, fuel containment, emissions standards, flammability standards, and that's just off the top of my head.

I really wish it would happen, though -- for all of us.

An A car would be a fantastic town car.

i can not understand why mb of us dont plan on making dot a class to meet our smog and safty standers. is this car that much smaller than mini ???. i would love to buy a cdi a class .iam sure this car gets between 40 and 60 mpg . my 300 d only gets 25 to 30 but i would not trade it for a crappy petro model it about time every one here in the us face that 99cents per gallon gas is long gone. if we start driving small diesl cars the oil market will crash. as long as we keep building euge suv gasers 10 dollars per gallon is not imposible to see !!!!

No it's not smaller than a mini; it has more legroom than a Lexus 4X4. About as much as a C class. My brother gets over 60miles per UK gallon from his A class and 65 on a decent run. New model is a fabulous car.

Second it is best in class for safety on european NCAP tests. Very few small cars come anywhere near ir on safety. And I like the high driving position.
