A160 stalls, can't shift gear and "F" in the dash!! - Benzworld.org

Yep, my A160 is currently in the shop being analysed. I dunno why it would stall as soon as you start the ignition, petrol smell. Then attempting to drive to repairer A160 would not shift into any gear and a jolly "F" displays in the dash.

any ideas? even stupid ones?

Well it turns out that it was a clutch sensor replacement job. there is a clutch sensor on the brake master cyl.which measures brake pressure and tells the clutch to disengage.
This apparently never happens. But it did!!
