I have just done 3900 miles in a new A160(LWB).The indicator has come on the dash with a spanner and clock and started to tick down two 'days' at a time.
The car only gets used for local runs and I have not driven it every day.
Has anyone had any problems with the ASSYST system or heard of anyone else ? My dealer is saying that I need my first service, but at 3900 miles ?? !! and at £229 + vat !!
I dont want to service the car every 4000 miles , that seems a bit much to me.....Can anyone help please ?

What you should know is that the Assyst is calculating the maintenance in Km/miles and in time. If you are not driving enoungh KM/Miles within a certain periond of time, the Assyst then will display your next maintenance not in km/miles anymore but in time (days / hours). If you will not get your car serviced, at a certain time, your car will pass from A Maintenance to B Maintenance wich is more expensif...

I had the same problem with my new A170 cdi. Did you buy the car new from the dealer ? if so, he did not reset the calender on your Assyst, which is part of the PDI. When your car was built, Assyst was activated at the factory and was "clocking time" while it's sat at the dealership waiting to be sold. Part of the PDI is to reset the "Assyst's calender" to Zero Days. It sounds like they have'nt done it. The supplying dealer tried to Blag an A service out of me at 800 miles and 4 months old ! (I think not). Another dealer explained what had happened and reset the timer FOB.
now it's coming up for it's first ever service (which is a "B")at 14700 miles in 20 months.

The Service Interval Timer takes into account "Short Runs", that is why the service is due before 6,000 Miles.
Now the crunch. Delay in having the car Serviced & the ASSYST reset will mean that the next service will not be in 6,000 Miles. i.e. If you do 1000 miles after the ASSYST show "Service" then that is 1000 Miles knocked off the time to the next Service.
problems with assyt is common for a classes due to their being a problem with the software in the cluster resetting it only brings back the problem later on it needs a new cluster
