I have seen the A-car while travelling in Europe and have found it to be quite desireable. Further review of different internet sites only confirms my original impression.

Does Mercedes have plans to import the A-car to the United States.

What is the price range for for the A-car??

I doubt the A Class will ever be officially marketed in USA . . . the big car mentality (isn't your number one seller a SUV!!!!) has killed any prospect.

Even here in Australia, where our number one seller is a (more modest) 6 cylinder sedan, the A Class has relatively low sales of 1,300 per annum. But in Europe and South America where small cars are the norm, it will continue to be the number one seller in the history of Mercedes-Benz.

I agree that this is a great loss for the US market. It is a great car.

Regards, Matthew
Sydney, Australia
1999 A160 81,600km
I am the District Teacher of the Year for Cache Public Schools, Cache, Oklahoma. I have been interested in your car since first seeing it in Europe. I have an idea for a great promotion. That should be interesting to see. I chatted with one of the sales people in Sacramento dealership about the time they were coming out in Europe and he expressed no interest at all. He considered the A-class to be mass market and contrary to the upscale marketing MBUSA had established for the brand. He very much liked the low volume-high commission type of business.
Personnally, I would be curious to see the A-class come, so we'll see.

This is the wrong attitude for him to have. Either way he will make money.
The A-Class is coming, don't you worry about that. I for one can't wait.
Why wouldn't MB want a lower market car. Get the customers while they are you and they will continue to buy from you for a lifetime. I am a loyal MB fan, but there is currently nothing in a second-car pirce range offerec from MB.
Instead of having people buying VW, then moving to Audi, BMW, or MB. Just allow them to buy MB from teh start. Once the A-Class comes over, you will see the A2 and A3 come as well.
I agree totally. Just the other day I read the Sidebar in R&T and seems they are bringing it to NA. Sounds awesome to me. Sounded like they are also going to increase the size as well to VW Golf size for one of the models. The plot thickens.[:D]
