They are supposed to bring ove rthe Smart 4-door as well as the Smart 4-door AMD.
At the same time, the plan to bring over the next-gen A-Class (W169?). The current model will not pash the antiquated crash-testing and bumper regulations of Canada/US.
They will also be bringing over the CST, which is basically an A-Class that is AWD and has a few more inches of ground clearance.
They are both sceduled to arrive as early as 2004, as 2005 models.
Hopefully the A-Class or CST will arrive with a 170 CDI or 220 CDI engine.

What is different about our crash testing, as compared to europe's crash testing?
Speaking of bumper regulations.....I just read that in Europe, "they" are trying to change the heights of hoods and bumpers, along with flattening out the nose on new cars. This is an effort to cut down on pedestrian fatalities. Aparently, there are over 300,000 serious pedestrian injuries
due to cars driving into people in Europe.

Ok, the A-Class is really comming to NA? i already have a 2002 MCC Brabus Tuned Smart Car Cabrio and have been thinking of importing a A160 over. Is this factual about the A-class comming or another myth? Ive wanted to build a Opera Design Wide-Body A-Class for years. So is this factual information and should i waitor just fly to Mexico and bring one back now?

Well, technically the A-klasse is sold in North America right now, in Mexico. You can get one at the San Diego Mercedes Center right now, although I am unaware of what kind of official "support" there is for it in the US.

here in Australia have not been as popular due to being price closed to the C Class, also I think some people snub them b/c they see them as being a cheap Mercedes Benz. Part of the logic is to get people into the MB experience and hope they will upgrade to a higher spec model next time. Resale values are not great we managed to pick up a 2nd hand 2002 model with about 6000 miles on the clock in US speak for about 66% of new cost. Features are incredible for a small car nothing else compares with the 4 airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, ASR etc etc etc
we get the A160 and A190 swb and lwb models here petrol only funshift (semi auto) and 5 speed automatic. Vast range of options also and trim levels, Classic and Elegance I think.
Great buy for 2nd small car especially 2nd hand. Closest competitor is probably VW Golf here.

i just read in Mercedes Momoentum "Based on the success of the smart in Europe, MBUSA recently announced plans to begin selling a new smart here in the future. The vehicle will be designed specifically for the United States."
