I have an A170 with no clutch pedal (don't know if they are all like this!) and occasionally miss 3rd gear when changing from 2nd. This can cause engine damage from over-revving if you're not quick enough to notice that you've missed a gear. Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem? I am not too happy about it at all and hope someone can shed some light on it.
no-dns-yet.demon.co.uk
I have a 1999 A160 with AKS (Auto clutch) as well. I would recommend the problem is that you are attempting to change gears way too fast between 2nd and 3rd.

A more deliberate gearchange movement can result in perfect gearchanges without any loss of forward movement . . . in other words, you will get there just as fast. The computer learns your driving and gearchange habits and adjusts its clutchwork to suit. But if you go too fast then sometimes your experience may happen.

Even so, I would recommend visiting your MB Dealer and asking them to check for error codes or need for adjustment.

Regards, Matthew
Sydney, Australia
1999 A160C 81,600km
yo guys the a 170 aks automatic clutch is a verry good car with little probs. like gearbox and clutch and unit your mercedes dealer shoud have the solutions
After much ado and visits to the dealership they've eventually solved the problem. How? By flying out a modified clutch assembly from Germany and a new computer unit. The car now behaves exceptionally well - but it took over 4 months to get some action!
