Shopping for Extended Warranty - ML350

Hello,

I am probably going to purchase a new 2012 ML350 and would like to be protected with an extended warranty for 7 years/84,000 miles. I am looking for advice on getting the best price on an extended warranty Does it make sense to shop around with multiple dealers after purchasing the car? Does it make a difference if I buy the warranty now versus in the year before my warranty expires? If anyone has recommendations of Mercedes dealers that offer good pricing on extended warranties that would be very helpful. Any thoughts on warranties from third parties such as Warranty Direct? Thanks in advance.

If you feel you must do this purchase only an MB warranty. Many aftermarkets are poor pay and many are scams. These are in fact not really a warranty but an insurance policy. I have never purchased one so I really cant give you any shopping info but I would start with the dealer you are buying the car from.

Dealer will gladly take your $ for an MB wty at time of purchase.
Part of the salesman/finance guy pitch was my experience.

I think you can purchase the extended warranty any time while you're still under warranty for the same price, but ask the Finance person to be sure.
In the meantime I would ask as many SA's as possible "what is the best extended warranty company you've had experience with?". You might be surprised at the answers you get.

We're 3/3 with Warranty Direct paying out way more than we paid for our warranties. I'm not sure but they may have been bought out a few years ago so although I'd love to vouch for them, things could be different now.

I received a junk mail yesterday from an extended warranty company. After reading (I usually throw this stuff away) it was from an insurance broker, not even an insurance company. It had SCAM all over it.

I have never heard of anyone who has claimed that there is any outside warranty program better than a manufacturer's new car warranty, extended new car warranty (the OP's original question) or a manufacturer's certified used car warranty (CPO).

Warranty companies can be useful for non-manufacturer's coverage on the purchase of a non-certified used car.

I had purchased warranty coverage on a 2004 ML that I had purcahsed at that time from a Land Rover dealer (trade-in). A valid warranty company.

Extending the original new car warranty (again the OP's question) gives you the very best coverage you can get (which many would call bumper-to-bumper). Again, there is no 3rd party warranty available period that comes close to the coverage of extending the original new car warranty.

A MB CPO warranty would be the next best level of coverage on a certified used Benz.

A 3rd party warranty coverage is a bit less (or a lot less depending on warranty company) than a CPO.

I just took delivery of a 2012 ML350. They (dealer) are currently offering me the MB 72 month/75k extention for $1700.00. I am holding out for a better offer, I countered with a 7 year/75K for the same price...I'm waiting to hear back.

If it was me, I would counter on the $17oo cost by offering to pay 1st (2) months payments for up to $1500 - if you went with MBFS financing that is...

everyine has a different obstruction, but financial obstacles are easiest.

Keep the beat !

Geico - Mechanical Breakdown Insurance

I am now considering Gieco's supplemental Mechanical Breakdown inusrance for $100 a year in additon to my auto policy. I have been told it provides similar coverage to an extended warranty and covers any problems except maintenance. I gave them a couple of example like navigation and was assured it would cover all of them. Does anyone have experience with Geico's mechanical breakdown insurance? Thanks in advance.
