Winter Is Coming! Skiing time right behind the corner! While I was fine driving on original all season tires, it can get pretty snowy and slippery here in the Rockies, so I would like to try snow ones for a change. The original ones also only lasted 25k(. Not that many options out there so - any advice? Or should I just stick with All Seasons ones?
Another question - should I buy online? It appears that prices are pretty comparable, and if U buy from the local store they would mount them cheaper for the seasons to come - so price is probably a wash, but of course there are more choices online.
Please advise.
We just had Cooper Discoverer Sport 255/50 winter tires mounted on our stock 19 inch wheels. I thought about buying a set of 18 inch wheels and tires for winter, but decided to save the money on extra wheels and just have the tires switched on the stock wheels in spring and fall. The dealer said there was no problem doing that. I can't report on how the Coopers are doing, because we have only about 10 miles on them so far, and no snow yet (70 degrees today). We have 7500 miles so far on the stock Continentals (since we bought our GLE 300d in June), and I hope we can get at least one more summer out of them.
I have had two sets of winter tires on my 2012 ML in the stock 19 in size. The winter tires that I got for last winters were the new Bridgestone Blizzaks DM-V2. Even though last year's winter here in Montreal wasn't too bad these tires performed really wheel on slush, sleet, ice and snow. I highly recommend them, far better than the Bridgestone Blizzak LM25 4x4 that I previously had on my truck.
The only advise that I would give is that I should have originally bought dedicated winter wheels. It would have kept the OEM wheels in better conditions by not exposing them to repeated mounting and dismounting of tires and not to mention all the salt and sand that is sprayed on our roads in winter.
