Hi All,

Long time listener, first time caller - love the show.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the starter from a right hand drive ML500 M113 V8?

Don't bother quoting the service manual as, while it is usually very good, it fails on this one subject. I am honestly convinced the body needs to be demated from the subframes to achieve this.

The starter is under the right hand exhaust manifold, which can't be removed without removing the exhaust system and removing the steering intermediate shaft (right hand drive). This seems preposterous.

All access to the starter from under the car is blocked by heat shields. While I can just get a spanner on a wiring bolt, there is no room to turn them and no access for a ratchet spanner or socket.

Does anyone have first hand experience with this?

Cheers,

RussMc

Wow, you are right. I just looked it up in WIS and it's pretty ugly.

Step one - Raise vehicle on lift.
Step two - Remove engine compartment paneling.
Step three - Remove complete exhaust system.

That's crazy alright.
