The balance shaft in the early Mercedes-Benz M272 V6 engines was known to have problems due to soft metal being used in the manufacturing process of the timing gear. Over time, this gear wears down, causing timing to be thrown off.
Fortunately, ECS Tuning offers a genuine Mercedes-Benz replacement balance shaft kit complete with the updated timing gear to remedy the situation.
The Balance shaft comes with the new rear counterweight and counterweight securing bolt, all at a fraction of the cost of buying the same parts from the dealership.
its a Mb part. but for that price, that's just the shaft. you need a whole lot of different O-rings, sealant, gaskets, and other things. MB has a complete kit that includes all 4 cam magnets, 2 oil filters, all needed O-rings, sealant, various gaskets, etc. I have done approx. 10 of these shafts.
The balance shaft has to come out the front of the engine. By the time you separate the transmission and remove everything else necessary to lift the engine to drop the oil pan, the time you'd spend removing the front end to get the shaft out will be about equal to the time to lift the engine from the car.
