2008 ML320 CDI limped home

Last week We just merged onto the Trans Canada highway outside Canmore and the engine light came on as the engine wouldn't accelerate. I could reach highway speed after a kilometre and lost speed drastically uphill. We limped home and booked an appointment with my dealer.

Diagnosis was both intake manifold electric motors had seized and the complete intake manifold needed replacement. A pricey repair bill and one week in the shop.

I have 155,000 km.

Is this an isolated case? Comments?

I am at 100k and my inlet port motor failed.
I did the job myself. Removed turbocharger + removed both intake manifolds, cleaned allllll the gunk outta them, and then reassembled with a new inlet port shutoff motor. Took a freaking long time but saved me the couple thousand dollars that the dealer had quoted.

This is a very common issue with these CDI's.

Did they say specifically that the flaps in the intake manifold had seized? From what I understand it is generally dealership "procedure" to change the motor AND the manifolds while they have it opened up.

Where is the turbocharger and intake manifolds? I have a 2008 ML 320 cdi and it's doing the same thing. The codes I get are 0245, 0100, 0111. It doesn't have any power at take off but does after awhile.

Pop the hood, pull the engine cover. In the center on top of the engine, right against the firewall is the turbo.

Thanks but the turbo works. I found the problem which was a dry rotted lever around the intake manifold that wasn't letting air in.
