Fan after engine is off?

2011 ML350 After I shut off engine and return to garage a few minutes later, I hear a fan under hood running.If I open passenger door,fan stops.Does not happen all the time.Seems to happen after running A/C .Any ideas?

same issue here. Seems like this topic has come up before but now I can't recall any of the comments.

This is just a guess, but if it happens after using the A/C I would surmise that perhaps there is an auxiliary fan that runs in order to prevent water build-up in the condenser, which is what provides an environment for the growth of bacteria, leading to that horrible 'sock' smell you sometimes get.

There is the REST feature which will keep veh interior warm after the veh is shut off. YOU activate it by hitting AC/rest button and it blows warm air until engine temp drops or battery gets low (safety part)

I thought it was malfunctioning because I had NOT turned it on but heard the fan running in garage.

When I queried the dealer, they explained there was a feature to run fan to clear condensation from the system.

It wasn't mentioned in book so I had no idea.
