Rear shock replacement options?

My 2006 ML350 is due for replacement rear shocks. It appears as though the replacement choices are thin if I want to stay stock or close to it, but my repair shop quoted $244 each just for the shocks plus 1.4 hours of labor for each installed. Any opinions on something that will perform at OEM or better for less money?

For that sort of price you should be getting branded ones probably bilstein ones.

they are about £170 each here in the UK so a similar sort of price to the one quoted to you in US$

Mercer, why do you think the shocks must be replaced?
Have you broken one, or has the ride degraded?
How many miles on your car?
My understanding and experience is that the MB shocks on all their models are pretty much eternal.

I have 120K on this vehicle. One is leaking and starting to thump over bumps. I have been told by another ML350 owner and a R350 owner that their rears shocks did the same at much fewer miles.

At 130 K miles on my 07 ML CDI I am getting some weeping out of the rear shocks, but the ride and feel is just fine.
My indie mechanic says leave them be.
Have you found cheaper replacement shocks?
