Air Intake Snow Screen Upgrade?

Hi

I recently purchased a 2007 ML320 CDI in Ohio and had the B service done in Canada. The dealer told me that the Air Intake on the hood needed a snow screen installing (mesh) as snow can get into the heater blower. This was carried out for Canadian cars. Can anyone confirm this and whether it can be done under warranty?

Also he removed some gromets in the blower housing as they can freeze up and build up water.

He mentioned some gromets needed to be installed in the floor as watter can puddle and corrode some of the wiring in the floor.

Thanks

It was done in MY 08 to fix an ongoing problem with those things the dealer mentioned.Under warranty, not likely but perhaps you can get a goodwill fix from them. Also one thing, the folks who had trouble with it, parked outside in cold and snow conditions which let snow build up over the vent causing a lack of circualtion when the ML was started up, if you have a heated garage to park in every night, you likely dont need it.

Thanks, the car is parked in the garage every night, did you get the grommets done in the floor pan to let melted snow leave the footwells and not corrode the wiring?

I don't think the air intake mesh is expensive so I may go with the modification just in case I am in a snow belt area once in a while.

I went to service for break light problem and in same time, SA fixed new Air Intake on hood ...Actually, they replaced part under warranty with zero cost ..Personally, I think the new part could be problem during summer time due to we have cold winter but also hot summer in Canada ...Not sure if extra net could be taken out during summer time ...
