I was disturbed by a comparison of the ML V.S. the GLK. What I came across is that the GLK actually has better build quality as well as detailing than the ML. The GLK has a nice rear armrest, with storage and cupholders. Also, it has metal knobs for A/C, and COMAND. The instrument display is much more modern, and of much better quality. The headrests are piped in leather, the ML doesn't have that. This is very disturbing...the GLK is supposed to be entry level and the ML is midsize. Why is an entry level SUV comparable, or better in quality?????!!!!!
The ML was being designed in 2003-2005 so technically the technology is quite old already. The GLK just came out so of course some things will be improved and it will take time to trickle up and down the line.
Don't be surprised - this is what always happens. When BMW built their X5, it got put together from 7-series and 5-series parts mostly (E38 & E39).

Well, I've driven a few GLKs, and spent a good amount of time in them, and I personally do NOT think the build quality is better. I like that it is assembled in Germany, but I thought the GLK felt "thin" and somewhat cheap inside. The HVAC knobs and head rests didn't feel anymore upmarket, compared to the ML.

My wife and I loved the GLK when we looked at it in the brochure . When we saw it for real it was quite a let down . Way too small . It looks like a small station wagon with no room for my dog in the back . We did not even remotely consider the GLK after we saw it.
The GLK is a nice little SUV which was just designed and introduced recently. Therefore, some things may be more modern (such as the COMAND controls). However, it is in no way more expensive looking nor have better build quality than the ML. Just looking at the steering wheel will leave no doubt about that. The ML is actually not too bad. The interior looks just like the big brother GL, sans some differences in material here and there. The GLK's interior is based off the C class. The center console and steering wheel are almost identical. Again, not to knock the GLK as it is a great entry level SUV, but the ML is just more truck for the money.

Yes, Yes, yes....in regards to the steering wheel. That is the first thing I noticed in both the GLK and the new C-Class. The steering wheel design, materials and layout is very cheap, and feels very plasticky! I hated it. I actutally think the GLK is not a bad car, I somewhat even like it, but I think, no I know...the ML is nicer!!!

I dont know. I liked the glk like most, but felt as most about it...too small etc. I don't think its better in quality though. I did not like the front dash that much though kind of was too simple for me.
