I took an 09 ML350 home for a day back in August and I found within 20 minutes my back would start sweating...the MB-Tex just does not breathe at all in my experience.
I really like the ML but I've decided if I get one I can't get the MB-Tex so I'm considering a custom build with leather since it appears MB almost ships none of these with the leather option (I've yet to see one).
My 2 questions are 1) does anyone know if the leather is perforated? I Know the ML63 is soft & perforated but we're obviously talking about a different leather here and 2) anyone know what the approx build time is? I'm in the US if it makes a difference.
Thanks in advance, I've really enjoyed reading through this forum.
The ONLY reason I got rid of my '08 (fully loaded, almost every oprion) E350 w/Sport Pkg...was that damned MB-Tex. I loved the car, not one problem, but that MB-Tex does not breathe. I felt glued to the seat in warm weather. I know A LOT of members swear by MB-Tex, and yes I agree it is very durable and practical. Since I keep cars 1-3 years max....I want and only buy leather. I always thought it odd that my $60,000+ E-Class came standard with vinyl interior. Yuck, I hate MB-Tex.
I have never seen an ML (besides my 2 63's) with leather, so I do not know if it is preforated or not.
Usually build time on a custom order is about 3 months, but can easily be 4 months if they are busy, or in these times...using reduced labor and less factory hours!

I had mine built and it was about 4 months to deliver...but ...I got what I wanted and havent gone running around looking to add things and upgrade. The leather is different in the each of the 350 the 550 and the amg so it will depend on which vehicle you are buying. Likely best to go to a few dealers and check out some inventory. This will help you to pick your ext and interior colors and see the available leather choices.

I recently ordered an ML with leather. If your seats are heated and ventilated, the leather is perforated. Otherwise, it is not perforated apart from the little patch of perforated leather trim.
My new ML550 leather is not perforated. But it really does not matter as I see no difference between it and other MB's I have had with perforated leather. Your color choices will be Black, Very light tan and Gray.
A little piece is perferated..nice touch and l ordered mine July 21st.(my birthday) and took delivery Nov 7th.............and yes..l'm not a fan of the MB tex......

The leather used in ML350s and ML550s is the same, whether optional or standard. The leather used in the ML63 is Nappa leather, softer and more supple and also used to cover the dash. Perforated leather is an option, mandatory with seat cooling (not necessarily with seat heating). I don't think you can get it with MB Tex, aka Artico 'leather'. I find the cooling feature works well. Which package it comes with or whether you can order it as a standalone option depends on the country you are in. Check the US website.
I ordered the MB sheepskin covers over the MB tex when I ordered my ML CDI.
They ventilate well and am very satisfied.
BTW I was too cheap to order the A/C seat cooling option....
