This happened a while back but, long story short, flavored coffee was spilled on the buttons for the fan speed, and vent position (floor, face, windshield) thought I got to it in time and cleaned it up (used safe degreaser) but now they get stuck from time to time with the change of weather, (warmer not so sticky / colder=sticky) can I remove the wood grained piece (over ashtray) that surronds the buttons and how hard is this ? It's an 07 ML350. Thanks for any help

Remove the ashtray and then you can easily pull the wood backing around the climate controls and command unit out. Problem is however, that the climate controls are one module, which even MB dealers dont open. Therefore, I am not sure you can clean it any better by taking it out. I had a faulty passenger temp. control and replaced the entire unit. About EUR 700!
