Help with Bluetooth Connection Problem

Hi Guys

Im new to this part of the benzworld forum since i picked up a late 05 ML500 Sport with AMG appearence pack & wheels yesterday. My name is Carl and i live in the UK.

The ML has telephone pre wire and the dealer gave me an MHI Bluetooth adapter so i could use my phone via the cars audio system. Anyway at the hand over the dealer couldnt get it to work and in the end i just said for them to leave it and id sort it when i got home.

The instructions i have found online say that i should press the SLR shaped nose of the unit and the blue lights will flash to tell me its in pairing mode and mine does this and finds my Blackberry Bold 9000 ok so i can enter a pairing code for the car and the phone. The problem is that as soon as i have paired them the connection drops and nothing will happen after that.

I have Command fitted and have found that if i press Tel i get a message saying please insert sim card but if i press the Serv button i get a menu which has a Bluetooth option and when i press that there is my Blackberry on the screen.

Problem is nothing seems to work, i cant transfer contacts from the phone and if i try calling the phone in the hope that the call comes through the ML nothing happens and my phone takes the call.

I have read on here that US spec cars have a specific pairing code but according to the MBUK website it just says any number aslong as they match.

Can anybody help me figure out why i could pair up but then nothing from then on please ?.

Thanks

Carl

If your MHI it's the old model SAP (the one with silver parts), you have a problem.
This damn module only accept SAP (SIm Access Protocol) and it will "clone" your SIM if your phone will allow it. You will only be able to use contacts on the SIM card

The better version it's completely black.

Hi Courage

Yes mine is the one with silver parts, it looks like the nose of an SLR.

It has an option to insert a SIM card and the dealer said doing that and transfering my contacts that way might get the Bluetooth to work but i cant see how.

I did get the phone to pair & connect but just cant get it to stay connected and make / receive calls.

When you say it will clone my SIM card what do you mean ?. Also what do you mean when you say that i will only be able to use the contacts on the SIM ?. Isnt that what i need to do ?.

Does the older MHI not work then ?.

Thanks

Carl

Hi Carl,

As you live in the U.K., do some search in this Forum and you will find that there is a well-known UK Company who will be able to assist you. I bought the puck from them and I am 100% happy with my iPhone. The guys there were extremely professional. PM me for their name if you cannot find them with a search.

The device will take control of your SIM card via Bluetooth.
The device is the phone after this.
You can transfer some contacts on the SIM cards, but for me this was not an option as I have multiple phones added/contact.

Talk with your dealer and get the "black puck", that suppors the standard HFP (hands free profile).
