Ok, so these weird noises that I have heard have been addressed without success (previous thread).
An MB tech is coming in on Thursday 10/15 to see what's up. So far they have replaced: a/c compressor pulley, power steering high pressure hose, internal fan blower motor (this problem was fixed - what a miracle!).
The service rep took my har home and agreed with me about the noises. He ordered a new high pressure hose. The problems persisted.
The shop foreman took my car home and back and described the noises as "normal". I had a 2009 ML350 that was as quiet as a church mouse. The shop foreman said different components. Not sure I believe him...
My service rep argued with him until he agreed to have an MB tech look at the car. Ugh, so far my experience with this vehicle has been less than adequate.
As a recap, the noises are:
1) When the car is warm, at idle with drive engaged, foot on brake, you hear a chirping noise that fluctuates when you move the steering wheel... I suggested a new power steering pump - they replaced a hose.
2) While driving at low RPMs, low speed (2000 rpm, 10 - 30 mph) the typical whining noise of the transmission is exacerbated when the a/c compressor kicks on. It becomes a terrible whining noise... I suggested a new compressor - they said no.
If anyone has had similar expriences I would love to know.
I got a call from the dealership a few minutes ago. Looks like they are taking me up on my first offer. $29,500 trade in and $35k even on the other ML350, with one condition that I get to drive it overnight to make sure that I like it.
I could not argue as that was the original deal I presented. Just wish they had done that in the first place... Why did it have to come to me contacting MBUSA?
I hope my wife likes the car as it was a gift to her. This one is light blue with tan interior; not too keen on the tan but it will have to do.
The matter is settled. I took the other vehicle, a 2007 CPO ML350. They are fixing a laundry list of stuff that I wanted before delivery:
1) all weather floor mats
2) a small scratch repaired
3) service A completed
4) I asked to make sure that the bluetooth connection would work when I bought a bluetooth adapter; they decided to give me one for free.
5) it was missing the privacy shade for the hatch, they are supplying a new one.
6) The driver side wood trim on the front door was cracked, they are replacing it.
I also ended up buying the rear entertainment system for the active headrests. It was kind of expensive but I rolled it into the payments so it wouldn't hurt as much. I believe that the Vizualogic ones are around $1600 plus installation. Now, I don't have to install it myself and they won't look like some cheapo ones hanging down with velcro straps and wires in the lighter outlet.
So I ended up with a more or less, fully loaded CPO 2007 ML350 with 17K miles on it for around $37K, including the RES.
Options include, NAV, SAT, Harman Kardon, backup camera, bluetooth, power liftgate, memory seats, cd changer, heated seats, power folding mirrors (heated too), sunroof, trailer hitch.
Wish it had HIDs so I will probably end up going with the more expensive ones (MTECH) to avoid any install hassles.
Also, they insisted that I take a loaner instead of my old ML350. I thought that was a great idea as I did not want to be responsible for the old one. The newer one should be ready by Monday.
Good to hear this worked out. Congratulations. Maybe this will help teach the dealership it's cheaper to make sure their cars and trucks are in A1 condition BEFORE selling them as they are supposed to when selling them as a CPO.
Well, I drove the ML350 home this evening; so far I am in heaven. Seems to be much softer and luxurious than the 2006. The 2006 felt very tight and sporty. There is a slight whine, I am assuming that this is what is meant by "normal".
Can you believe that they asked me to come in tonight so I could release the old vehicle? They are having a big sales event tomorrow and want to put my old ML out on the lot again. I asked if they fixed it and they did not say yes or no...
BTW, I paired my LG VX9000 with the puck this evening. I imagine that it is normal that I cannot download the address book. There are a select few brands that will do this if I understand correctly. Please tell me if I am wrong.
Also, the DVD players look fantastic but I have not tried them yet. They are the Vizualogic add ons for adaptive head restraints. Perfectly matched to the macadamia interior. I am playing games in my head, rationalizing that since I got the puck for free (MSRP: $493) the DVD players were not too bad...
Oh, and it seems that the Sirius may have lifetime membership because I have all the channels. I am not calling them until it stops working!
Lastly, can anyone please tell me what the option "Speed & Load Index" is? I could not find anything on this forum.
