Reset Maintenance Service Indicator

ML 320 CDI

Does any one have any more sage advise on how to perform what should be a simple procedure ? I have down loaded the Reset Maintenance Service Indicator.PDF and carefully followed the procedure. . . No luck ! I've about worn out my Owners manual searching for instructions on resetting it.

Thanks !

On the fifth attempt I managed to get it reset per Reset Maintenance Service Indicator.PDF instructions. All this after a phone call to Mercedes USA where I was told only the dealer could reset it. I don't think that's a resource I be using in the future.

I usually finish the job, get cleaned up, grab a beer, get comfortable behind the wheel (in the garage of course), then with the reset procedures in hand, do the same thing as you did. After about five attempts (more or less) I get the menu up and can do the reset. But knowing it will take a few attempts, and the fact that I finished the job and have a beer in hand, I feel much better. That is the best feedback I can provide.

As a future reference as folks try this, I want to add that it took me about 15-20 times to get mine rest last night. I really don't know how many times it took. Rather than have a beer in hand, I decided I would stay in the ML until the dam thing reset. I turned it off and on and kept hitting the rest button 3 times. Finally the voltage appeared and I was able to rest it.

My reward was a Brandy and soda, but I must admit I was concerned that I might be spending the night in the car.

Crazy how complicated this is, but at least I know it can be done!

For those in the future, just keep doing the procedure. It must be hard on pupose so it is not accidently done or to provide a source of revenue for the Dealer.

You could also use a Scangauge. That thing can also read error codes when you get them.

OK totally newbie question but why would you being resetting this anyway?ouldnt this be done by the dealer mechanics- if say the car was under warranty- I can see how if its not it would make sense to do it...but if it was under warranty is they are real need to do it...also what changes did you guys do that required you to change it- just curious thanks

For me it's like this:
- i've made the first revision at 20 000 Km, not 30 000, but they forgot to reset Maintenance Service Indicator.

I've managed to get rid of it using the indications from the pdf (see attached file)

Response to Taurus106 question

My Maintenance Service Indicator said the vehicle was due for "Service C". I checked with the MB dealer's service department. For what is nothing more than a tricked up oil change they wanted $429. I bought the "fleece" oil filter on line for $12.95. The local Valvoline quick lube guys performed 80% of the stuff the MB dealer was promising to check and got me out the door for $85. But, they didn't know how to reset the Maintenance Service Indicator.

When you do your own or have an independent mechanic do the maintenance is when you'd do the reset. It's not a big deal, just a little tedious and woun't hurt the warranty as long as the work is accomplished.
