08 ML 320 CDI VS 09 ML Bluetec?

Newie here..

I feel I have scoured the internet looking for the answer to this question.....(I even tried searching on here, but that was a bit troublesome- so I hope(but I doubt) this topic is somewhat fresh.

But what is or are the key differences(not cosmetic) between these 07-08 and 09?
Is it mostly the urea exhaust bath? or does the 08 have a version of that as well?
It looks like the MPG is downgraded for 09 too? I noticed this happened with the 09 VW TDI as well once it had to pass the 50 states.

thank you for any discussions!
Josh

Read up on mbusa's site about Bluetec... which is starting on the 09 ML.

Do some searches here on run-flats and adblue. You might get some insight on some of the concerns members are voicing about these things- perhaps they won't matter to you.

Since much of this has already been discussed in great length, I'd say great things come to those who search.

But to your question regarding mileage, I think it is ever so slightly better in the 09'. The difference you may see is in the standards by which mileage is calculated. That's a completely different issue of changing standards not that the vehicle achieves any less mpg.

Urea tank on '09 replaces spare tire, meaning you have to live with runflat tires, which are crap. Get an '08 while you can.

Agreed.

Porsche solution in the 911 is a pump and a can of "flat fixer". No spare tire and no runflats.

Nearby thread suggests the fix-o-flat solution may be Mercedes' approach, too. Good if so.
