Working a deal on '08 ML320CDI w/ P2...
I'm working a deal on an '08 ML320CDI 4-matic w/P2, 322 appearance pack, voice, trailer hitch, running boards, 6-disc cd changer, i-pod kit, heating package... Doesn't seem to be alot of leverage when workikng deals on the diesels at the moment, but I've got it down to invoice - $3000 ( Summer Love cashback) ... One item I'd like to get rid of, "IRG Participation" for $600 which is basically me paying for MB's advertising... Anybody have any luck on negotiating that out of the deal...? Any other thoughts..? They also sell a maintenance pakage I can buy for like $295.00 which covers oil changes for life, which is no longer covered otherwise...
$295 covers the maintenances for life? Make sure they pay for more than the 'oil change' as maintenance A and B are quite a bit more then just the oil change.
In my experience ANY deal you can get on the 320CDI is a good deal as most dealers were selling whatever they had at MSRP

If you really have $3000 under invoice, you are stealing it. You must mean MSRP!!?? Even then I think you have as good a deal as you will get anywhere. You will be giving back $600 on the profit pad, regardless of what they call it. Just refuse to pay it and see what happens. Read the maintenance pkg info VERY carefully. It would seem to be a good deal since a simple oil change will be over $100 at the dealer, but what does it pay on the b.c and other services in which an oil change is included but not necessarily charged out seperately. How long is "life". Good negotiating!
Christ $3000 BELOW invoice and you are worried about the IRG fee? Me thinks someone is getting a LITTLE greedy!
The IRG is for real and is a dealer cost factor for advertising. He must pay a certain amount per vehicle for the local advertising that he has agreed to participate in. This is not an item that shows on the invoice to the customer but it is on his invoice and comes out of his pocket. As for an employee deal, no way one must be an actual employee of MB and the vehicle must be registered in his or her name. Sounds to me like this guy is really not a buyer but a "shopper" putting the dealer thru an exercise. Say this based upon an excellent deal presented to him and he is still chipping away or trying to. Maybe this deal is only in his imagination.

Wrong... If you re-read the thread, it's an employee deal, the emplyee being my wife... She works for the dealership where we bought the ML... The deal is Invoice - $3000, and I've seen and have the invoice in my posession with the deal paperwork... And one more thing, Invoice - $3000 IS NOT a particularly great deal, it just happens to be the only deal currently offered on the Diesels because they are apparantly selling well and need no incentives from MB... If you don't belive me, ask any MB Dealership Employee about the DEPP program and how much of a discount they can get on certain models depending on the current program... I don't pay more than I have to for ANYTHING and that includes this deal too... If you knew how much money was hidden in these deals you'd all be a little more savvy when you were negotiating... For instance, even though we got Invoice - $3k, we still had to pay $825 Shipping and Dealer Handling, $600 IRG Participation (Invoice) and then another $498.95 Dealer Handling on the sticker... Then there's Holdback that the Dealership gets paid Qly from MB, a % of the finance rate, etc...
