So what do you think the going rate is for a used 2008 ML320 with P1 pack & ipod with 15,000 miles? Any chance of seeing $50,000 or close to it on a private sale?
I think you are 8 to 10K high. 15000 miles on a year old vehicle is quite a bit above average and the 09's are to be delivered shortly. However I would advertise it is the states that allow only used diesels to be registered. Another thing is the high price of diesel today, Five bucks plus a gallon which takes a lot of the diesel purchase desire away.
I would have thought that too, but there doesn't seem to be any used diesel MLs to compare to. Leading me to believe that they may hold their value better than the gas.
The $1 more for diesel, if that, is a bit of misnomer. The gas vehicle is getting 5-7 mpg less than the diesel engine.
I know there is a waiting list to get diesel ML's here in Florida at the dealers. Diesel prices were only 22 cents different from premium this week. I would think that there might still be a demand.

Unfortunatly 5 to 7 more miles per gallon does not really offset the higher cost of diesel fuel. I believe that the "new economics" of fuel consumption eat up the advantage of the diesel considering the premium one pays to purchase one. Thats not saying its a bad engine but only that things have changed and I do not believe that we will see any future reductions of fuel costs that amount to any savings over todays price. In fact I believe that it will become more expensive in the future.

Well at $0.22 to maybe $1 (more likely $.50-.75) it's a bit of bargain for a 20-30% increase in fuel economy and power more like a V8 engine than the small V6. The additional cost is only $1,000 more on the purchase price, so I think the pay back can happen within a few years. I'd say it's a better buy than most hybrids we are seeing with premiums of $7,000 (sometimes 25% cost premium).
But yes, at first glance the average joe probably doesn't see that. They fill up with gas thinking geez look how much more diesel fuel is. The difference is that they are back in the station filling up again 20-30% sooner than the guy driving the diesel and charging another $100 to their card(s).
I am wondering what the new bluetec ML320's will get for fuel efficiency? Any ideas out there how much higher the cost for maintenance of the 09 ML320's will be with the introduction of Bluetec? Frankly, I am trying to decide if it would be more economically wise to buy a new ML320 now or wait until the 09 is available.
Opinions?

I had my local dealer new car Mngr. look for an '07 - '08 ML320 CDI and found that they are still selling at near MSRP, even used... He claims they are being sold in California after they have 10,000 miles on them and are being gobbled up at the auctions all accross the country by California Dealers... We looked for quite awhile before I decided to just work a deal on a new '08 from inventory... Still in that process at the moment... I know there are almost no incentives on any of the diesel models at the moment because they are selling well... There aren't even any deals to employees...
